The Joel Ward to Leeds United rumours has been mentioned here and there for a couple of weeks.

It all started when Jason Pearce appeared a dead cert to be our first signing of the summer. Ward along with David Norris and Luke Varney were also linked.

The real sign of movement with this transfer came last night when the Daily Mail reported that United had won the race to sign the versatile Pompey player. As you may have seen from the link...it wasn't much of a story. This resulted in me and a few others being fairy sceptical about the rumour, despite Pompey boss saying the pair were like peas in a pod.

Well it appears there may be something more too it. As usual the local paper, the Yorkshire Evening Post are on the story first. Chief football reporter Phil Hay tweeted earlier tonight:

We've all seen the financial worries that Pompey are in. I do feel sorry for them and then I don't. I personally haven't seen much of Ward but should we sign him I'll have something on the site like I did last week with Jason Pearce. We're in talks which is a start. Lets hope we follow them through and do the best we can to make Ward signing number two.

We should have more on this story tomorrow as the Evening Post will be running a piece on it. Will try and bring you the story tomorrow.

Friday update:

Ipswich Town, Crystal Palace and Burnley are all in for Ward. The Yorkshire Evening Post understand that Ward is going to make his decision next week after thinking about it over the weekend.
