During my years following Leeds United there has been plenty of highs, plenty of lows and plenty of awkward feelings. I know it's not the end of the world but I'd put the feeling I have now up there!
Six games to go, nothing to play for and further disappointment that this season has been a total waste of time. To make matters worse we have suspensions and injuries and we travel to Reading who are on top form and will probably go up. O and it's on Sky TV, so the nation can see us get spanked!!
Having said that typical Leeds United will lose to Watford and go and beat Reading...give the fans hope again then lose to Derby. We never do it easy, so lets just admit the season is over and Friday could well be a painful experience.
But the question is with all our problems who is going to start or feature against the Royals?
It would seem that one man who will start is Zac Thompson. Warnock has already stated in an interview that he envisioned Thompson playing in a number of different positions. To be fair to Thompson, he didn't do much wrong when he last featured in the team under the stewardship of Simon Grayson. He's young and passionate to impress and could well slot in at right-back/centre-midfield.
But apart from Thompson who else could feature. Below I've gone through all those in the squad who haven't featured and whether they're likely to get any game time.
Andy O'Brien
O'Brien has had a turbulent year to say the least. When he first signed the fans thought his experience could prove to be a key factor, but he's hardly had the chance to prove anything. His problems with depression are hopefully behind him and he has been in and around the squad, especially under Neil Redfearn. With Paul Connolly and Darren O'Dea suspended O'Brien could well be on the bench or even start, mainly because Warnock has yet to see him in a competitive fixture.
Ben Parker
Ahh the forgotten man. You have to feel for Parker at times with his constant injury problems. Over the years he seems to have lost a yard of pace and this year has been another injury ravaged one. He has had some light at the end of the tunnel; enjoying a successful loan spell at Carlisle. Paul Robinson is above him in the pecking order, but Warnock has yet to see what Parker can do and may throw him in. Unlikely but who knows.
Leigh Bromby
Has featured every now and again under Warnock when he's been fit. In the past few weeks he's struggled with match fitness and little niggling injuries. Warnock is no stranger to what Bromby can do having coached him at Sheffield United, but the defenders contract is up at the end of the season. Warnock may need him to slot in at righ-back should be choose to play Thompson in midfield.
Mika Varynen
Looking back now you could joke and say that Varynen was signed to help Forssell settle. Probably rubbish I know but what else has Varynen brought to the club? Earlier in the season against Brighton I lost some respect for Varynen who left Elland Road early as he wasn't picked, little things like that don't get you in the team for me. Against Arsenal he did run his socks off and put in a solid effort but since then he has had surgery and must feature in the next few weeks if he is to have any chance of gaining a full time deal.
Danny Pugh
I'd be very surprised if Pugh didn't start tomorrow and most likely in the centre of midfield. Opinions are split on whether he's good enough but for now we need numbers and we have very few midfielders. He's featured sparingly for Warnock the last time against Forest when he came on for Robinson, and got skinned seconds later for Forest to score another goal.
Ramon Nunez
Little Ramon had a good go last week against Watford in the twenty minutes he was used. But I kept help but feel he doesn't deserve to be playing at this level, from what I've seen anyway. I'd love to be wrong and maybe with Aidy White injured he could feature but I'd much rather see Rogers feature.
THE Robbie Rogers
Here he is the man we all want to see. We've all had plenty of amusement from his Twitter account and his American slang but we really need to see what he's got. Some have seen videos and say he is brilliant, while others disagree. But I have a feeling (thanks to White's injury) Rogers will start tomorrow and he has to impress.
Billy Paynter and Mikael Forssell
I've put these two together as they've both been as useless as each other. I VERY highly doubt they'll play but because of missing players we may change formation which could mean one of these two get a run out. We need to try and win though, and these two don't score so Becchio it is.
I'm just trying to justify why those who haven't had a chance may get one. But I think Thompson, Bromby, Pugh and Rogers are probably the most likely to start. Not looking forward to the game at all but lets just see what happens.
