With the transfer window closing, Leeds announced the signing of Richard Naylor and American striker Mike Grella as well as the release of Paul Telfer.
Richard Naylor, who came over on-loan from Ipswich Town made his move permanent with the signing of a contract that will see him through the 2011 campaign. Mike Grella, who has represented the American U18 and U20 sides was recently drafted by Toronto FC of the MLS, signed a eighteen month deal.
As it relates to Paul Telfer, the club terminated the thirty-seven year old defenders contract by mutual consent. The former Celtic man was brought in by Leeds boss Gary McAllister last summer and had done a fine job providing experience to the troubled back-line but had yet to feature under Simon Grayson. This is an unfortunate move in my opinion as I feel that while his best days are naturally behind him he could provide strong leadership in the final stretch run. Mr. Telfer has a great deal to give the game and presuming this is his final stop in his playing career, I hope in time we'll see his name join the coaching ranks.
