It was far from a "beautiful" performance but with tactical precision Leeds defeated Southend United 2-0 at Elland Road. With their third successive victory, Leeds climbs up within three points of Oldham Athletic in the final playoff spot. The major change in Simon Grayson's lineup was Jermaine Beckford taking Luciano Becchio spot after his brace against Peterborough United last weekend.
Leeds took the lead six minutes after the start when Bradley Johnson's corner was met by Rui Marques and headed into the back of the net. Five minutes later they young midfielder's corner effort resulted in Richard Naylor nodding the ball in and Leeds had a two goal advantage. The match then took on the ability to cure insomnia as Southend lacked the resolve to get back into the affair.
