In going through the Leeds roster it was difficult to choose which player to list first. Should I go with the most senior member of the team or a product of the Academy? Without a clear-cut answer, I went with a likely choice of last seasons League One player of the year, Jermaine Beckford.
The 24 year-old striker from London, joined the club in 2006 and has since netted 20 goals in 49 appearances, many of a stunning nature. A product of the Chelsea youth program, after being released in 2003, he joined Wealdstone of the Isthmian League Premier Division where he quickly asserted his goal scoring prowess. With considerable notices from numerous squads and a brief trial for Crystal Palace reserves, he agreed to terms with Leeds and joined them effectively March 15, 2006 (I suppose we can say for other squad the "ides of March" was dangerous for others with the signing of Jermaine).
Thankfully Jermaine is signed to a Leeds contract through 2010 and although there are understandably numerous attractive offers from other clubs he has shown a remarkable throwback quality and is extremely loyal to Leeds and not interested in moving. With Jermaine at Striker our march towards promotion is on strong capable shoulders.
