McCormack Named in Scotland Squad to Face Wales and Serbia

Michael Regan

Leeds United striker Ross McCormack has once again been called up to Gordan Strachan's Scotland squad - this time to face Wales and Serbia in the World Cup 2014 Qualifiers.

McCormack was part of Strachan's first squad in charge back in February but pulled out due to illness.

The striker joined up with the squad but was forced to pull out of the game against Estonia due to a batch of flu.

McCormack is still battling hard to prove himself on the international stage for his country, and was left out on multiple occasions last season despite scoring goals for fun. Under Leeds favourite Strachan, Ross seems to have been given a life-line to show his credentials on the big stage.

In recent weeks, Ross has struggled in front of goal with his last one coming from the spot against Wolves. Last week's 1-0 win over Millwall saw McCormack miss a one-on-one and a penalty. Despite his lack of goals and disappointing missed chances, he still has a vital role to play in the squad.

Scotland host Wales on Friday March 22 before travelling to Serbia on the following Tuesday (March 26th).

Former winger Robert Snodgrass is also in the squad, as are Chris Burke and George Boyd two of Neil Warnock's previous transfer targets.

Midfielder, Rodolph Austin has also been called up on international duty - with the out-of-form player being called up by Jamaica. He will join the squad to face Panama and Costa Rica, after our clash against Huddersfield on Saturday March 16.

Speaking of Austin - why not read our piece on why his form has dipped?
